How to Prepare for the COVID-19 Vaccine

Last April, little did we know COVID-19 would carry into 2021. Fear and uncertainty gripped the world. This April though, we can look out with hope toward a return to normalcy. If you have made the decision to get the COVID-19 vaccine, this article goes over how to best prepare.

How to Prepare for the COVID-19 Vaccine

1. Do your research

Before choosing which vaccine to get, do your research on each one and consult your primary physician. It is important to make sure that you get the right vaccine suitable for your body and health needs. The three different vaccines include Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine.

2. Understand the side effects of each one

Here are the possible side effects of the vaccines according to the CDC (they are the same for each vaccine):

    • tiredness
    • nausea
    • headache
    • muscle pain
    • chills fever

You may also experience pain, redness, and/or swelling in your arm. These side effects begin in the first day or two of receiving the vaccine and last for up to 36 hours. Therefore, it’s wise to get the vaccine on a Friday or when you have time to rest afterward.

3. Do NOT take pain killers before your vaccination

According to the CDC, “It is not recommended you take over-the-counter medicine – such as ibuprofen, aspirin, acetaminophen – before vaccination.” The is because the effects of these medications on the vaccine are unknown.

Although, you can take these medications after getting vaccinated. The CDC recommends talking to your doctor to be safe.

4. Stay hydrated

UCHealth recommends drinking a lot of water before receiving the vaccine. Staying hydrated will help regulate your body temperature and prevent brain fog. It is important to feel as good as possible prior to your vaccination.

BOOSTit for Immune Support

It is important to continue to support your immune system even after you get the vaccine. BOOSTit is an all-natural solution for immune support that will give you extra protection against COVID-19 and other illnesses.
